Phuket beaches in Thailand
Although I never got used to the 86 degrees and 80% humidity, there was no denying their natural beauty. This photo is of popular Patong beach. The town is one of the centers of the Thai sex tourism industry, and its ladies of the night added a certain spice (and sleaziness) to an otherwise fine setting.
This next photo is taken about the same spot, looking in the opposite direction. My hotel room shown was just across the road, with a glimpse of this scenic part of Patong beach. With warm water and interesting rock formations on the beach, I was here often.

The building above the beach is the Baan Rim Pa restaurant, offering one of the most exquisite cuisines (and settings) in all of Thailand - a most memorable meal here.
Most everybody gets around on Phuket by motorcycle. They cost only $7 a day, including gas! I rented one for a day to explore the nearby towns and white beaches. Although never feeling entirely comfortable and safe in traffic, it was an exciting way to get around (including a spinout on a sandy turn).
The reward for this adventurousness was series of spectacular beaches, including Laem Singh, one of the best anywhere. The green waters here were much clearer than at my Patong beach (hidden in the curve at the distant left). Unfortunately I didn't have my snorkel along, but the many colorful fish and corals were described enthusiastically to me by an attractive Belgian couple. (Should I say voluptuous blonde?) We agreed that the day was certainly preferable to one back home!
